No matter what type of company you run or the variety of business that you do, having a comfortable organized work environment is important to achieving success. There are many tips and tools you can use to maximize your space and create flow in your environment so that your work is more productive. We have put together a list of our favorite tricks and advice below to help you get the most out of your office no matter what size.
Your Desk and Chair
The first step to a good work space is purchasing the right desk for you and your needs. Think about what you do at your desk most. Is it mainly to have your computer or laptop on or do you need a lot of space for paperwork, maybe you even need room to draw and sketch. Depending on your business activity, choose the right style desk for you. Another thing to consider is getting a standing desk. These are very trendy right now and can be great for those who get tired or sore sitting all day. Many back problems are attributed to too much time spent at a desk with poor posture so you will need to consider an appropriate chair for your desk as well. If you will be sitting for long periods of time make sure to find a chair that is ergonomically correct and can offer you good lumber support with the ability to adjust to your size.
If possible, you should position your desk in front of or near a window. It has been shown that a view to the outdoors can increase productivity greatly. If you don’t have a window available, adding some house plants or at least some plant inspired art could be great for your space. In addition to plant life, adding some color can be a great way to liven things up in a dull office environment. Head to Nordstrom Rack to pick up some colorful décor or art for your walls.
Organization is key when it comes to being productive. Feeling like your space is set up and you know where to find all the tools you may need goes a long way when it comes to working efficiently. Getting a good system going with paperwork and filing as well as can be helpful when you have the type of job that requires a lot of printed paperwork versus online based information.
Make It Exclusive
One of the best pieces of advice I ever received about my work space was to make sure I used the space solely for work related tasks. So many people use their workspace as multiple things, they eat meals there, they chat and catch up on life with friends or coworkers, and even watch tv online. If you want to be productive in your space during working hours, make the space you work in feel like it was designed for that purpose. Doing too many other things can cause you to constantly feel distracted or unable to complete tasks.
